JOHN HOYT

John Hoyt (1904-91) worked as a history instructor, acting teacher and nightclub comedian before taking up acting with Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre. Adept at playing heavies, he played Decius Brutus in the famous 1937 Mercury Theatre production starring Welles, reprising it in 1953 in MGM's JULIUS CAESAR (with Brando). He appeared in many noir films, including BRUTE FORCE, THE BRIBE, TRAPPED and LOAN SHARK, and he was Star Trek's first official doctor, replaced after the pilot by DeForest Kelley.
